Wordmi

Privacy Policy

Effective 2026-08-06 · version 2

Wordmi is a vocabulary app. This policy says what it collects, why, who else sees it, and how to make it stop. It describes what the app actually does — if you find something here that does not match the app, that is a bug and we want to hear about it at support@wordmiapp.com.

1. What we collect

Your account. When you sign in with Apple or Google we receive an account identifier and, if you choose to share them, your email address and name. This is what lets your words follow you to a new device.

Your words. The words you look up and save, the tags you put on them, and when you looked at each one. These are stored on your device and — see §3 — mirrored to your own private iCloud storage.

Usage statistics (on by default, switchable off in Settings ▸ Help Us Improve). Which features you use, which words you look up, add and delete, basic device information, app performance, and crash reports. This is linked to your account identifier, so it is not anonymous. Turning it off stops collection from that point on.

Vocabulary comparison (off by default, opt-in in Settings ▸ Compare with Others). When you turn this on, the app sends how many of your saved words fall into each of five difficulty bands — five numbers — plus an age range if you provide one. It does not send the words. Your numbers join a pool that other opted-in readers are compared against; nobody sees them as yours.

Purchases. Subscriptions are handled by Apple. We receive from Apple whether you have an active entitlement. We never see your payment details.

We do not collect the contents of anything else you type, your contacts, your location (the bookstore finder asks iOS for nearby results and that search happens on your device), your photos, or your microphone.

2. Why we collect it

We do not sell your data. We do not use it for advertising. We do not build profiles for anyone else.

3. Where it goes

Your device. Your words live in a database on your phone.

Your iCloud. That database is mirrored to your own private iCloud account, using Apple's CloudKit. It is your storage and your Apple account; we cannot read it. This is how your words survive a lost phone, and it happens whether or not you subscribe.

Our servers. Definition lookups the bundled dictionary cannot answer, your account record, and — only if you opted in — your comparison numbers.

Processors we use. These companies handle data on our behalf, under their own privacy policies:

ServiceWhat it handles
Apple (Sign in with Apple, CloudKit, App Store)Sign-in, your private iCloud mirror, purchases
Google (Sign-In, Firebase)Sign-in, authentication, backend infrastructure
PostHogUsage statistics and crash reports

4. How long we keep it

5. Your choices and rights

If you are in the EEA, the UK, or California, you have rights to access, correct, delete, and port your data, and to object to processing. The controls above are how to exercise most of them; for anything else, write to support@wordmiapp.com and we will respond within 30 days.

6. Children

Wordmi is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has given us data, write to support@wordmiapp.com and we will delete it.

7. Where data is processed

We operate in the United States, and our processors may handle data in the United States and elsewhere. If you use Wordmi from outside the US, you are sending your data to it.

8. Security

We use encryption in transit, and access to production data is limited to people who need it. No system is perfectly secure, and we will not pretend otherwise; if we discover a breach affecting you, we will tell you.

9. Changes

We will update this policy as the app changes. The effective date at the top tells you which version you are reading, and material changes will be announced in the app.
